One person critically injured after car flips over and lands in Queens waterway

A car flipped over and landed in a Queens waterway overnight, critically injuring one person, according to reports.

The accident happened after 4:30 a.m. along Rockaway Boulevard near Brookville Boulevard in Queens, a roadway that crosses a section of Jamaica Bay just east of JFK Airport.

CBS 2 reports that divers visited the scene, searching the water for survivors.

Four people were rescued, with one of the victims suffering from life-threatening injuries, CBS 2 reports.

Officials were also searching for two other people at the scene, but those people may have left before emergency responders arrived.

There's no word on whether this weekend’s snow and rain contributed to the accident.
